Sometimes I regret looking at the newspaper because there is nothing but bad news. I don't want to get into the particular story because it's too sad. Enough of that.
Minnesota still doesn't have a senator. No matter what side you are on I think it will be VERY close. Personally, I wouldn't want the job half the voters love you and the other half can't stand you. Not much of a mandate.
Today at work we had our winter event (can't say Christmas or Holiday anymore). Since the economy is so poor they recommended we forgo the usual party and do a volunteer event instead. This was fine with as I never liked the events anyway. Personally, I'd rather go home than be forced to celebrate with co-workers. It's like when you were a little kid and your mom made you play with the kid no one liked (I was probably that kid, now that I think about it.)
Anyway, we had a choice of activities so I chose the no-sew blanket making, card making and writing letters to depoloyed service people. I took the creative route. It was fun and I especially enjoyed writing letters to the service people. It was kind of hard to think of what to write but I decided to just write about everyday things. I think "normalcy" is what they would like to hear about.
When I was in Target later on I looked down and there was a huge chunk missing out of my fingernail. HOW does that happen? And how don't I feel it? I think it's the dry weather and the fact that I haven't painted my nails in awhile. Don't know why, just can't find the time where I don't need to use my hands for an hour or so.
The Christmas cards were finished last night and have been sent out in the mail today, so they should be slowly trickling into mailboxes around the state and country. I never write letters so I think the tradition of sending Christmas cards is an important one for me to keep.
What traditions do you feel are important to keep, but don't really fit into today's world? For instance, this blog could replace the Christmas cards I sent.
I think the neighborly drop ins is important to keep. But is lost already, I remember neighbors and friends used to drop in over the holidays, my mother always had holiday baking ready to serve and made hot chocolate or cider.
ReplyDeleteIt bothers me that people can live within 10-30 feet of each other and never speak. No commraderie, no trust..... maybe what it really is, people are uncomfortable with talking to strangers and don't care if they make the effort.
I liked the old days when you could rely on your neighbors for help, you enjoyed catching up with the new married couple down the block that just had a baby, or just stopping in on the old guy that lives right next door, bring him a box of cookie's a visit for a minute.
As much as I really like the computer age, it has also been our downfall. (Don't I sound like an old geezer now ?????)
Ok great question!
