"A Charlie Brown Christmas" was on again tonight. It was on last week when I was in New Hampshire, I had one eye on it while I packed to leave the next day. I absoloutely love the "Christmas Time is Here" song. The high point is Linus quoting the Christmas story from the bible.
I am always amazed at the things Snoopy can do. He can play guitar, play the accordian and decorate his dog house with Christmas decorations. I also noticed in the Met Life commercials he can drive a car. Do you REALLY think Met Life would insure Snoopy for car insurance? I don't think so. Either that or he would be very high risk. I also think Snoopy has a great laugh.
I must admit I do NOT have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, I think it is the exact opposite. I don't think the tree is big enough so to give the optical illusion I put it on a table in the front window, so the top reaches midway to the transom window. From the outside it looks like it looks huge, 10 feet high when in reality it is a mere 7 feet high.
Mocha loved to climb the Christmas tree, hide in it and watch the birds at the bird feeder. She would climb almost to the top, but then she would tip it over so that was the end of the fun for her.
If I put any more ornaments or lights on the tree it will tip over. I don't even have a third of the ornaments that I have on the tree. Every year after Christmas I always buy more lights. This year there are seven strings of lights on the tree, and I have a couple of LED strings. They look pretty neat, it's a very clean, non-yellow more pure light. I'm sold on the LEDs. They are kind of spendy so I wait until the after Christmas sales to pick them up.
I try to get an ornamet every year. If I had to pick a favorite decoration, I don't think I could. It would have to be the Scarlett O'Hara ones from Hallmark probably, but I love the kugels, my raven ones I got in Alaska and I have a pretty blue Department 56 one too. I like blue ormaments for some reason. The oldest ornament is over 60 years old, it is a plastic snowman that belonged to my grandmother. According to the German tradition I also have a pickle hidden in the tree.
A few years ago I bought a ton of Christmas decorations at the Christmas store in New Ulm, MN. They closed a couple of years ago and I darn near cried when they did because they had such awesome Christmas stuff at all price points. I still have not found a Christmas store of that caliber, if you know of any or have any suggestions let me know!
My Christmas tree is an 8 foot prelit and I have every ornament I own on it (Outside for the 8-10 I have at work decorating my cubicle) The older cats have date night (EACH NIGHT) they meet under the tree and lick each other and fall asleep under the twinkling stars hugging each other. GReta van Grump, also believes this is here private hiding spot as she will climb the tree and peak out between lights and ornaments!
ReplyDeleteThe kittens (I use that word lightly now) are thankful for the big lady putting ornaments low enough for them to bat around! there christmas stockings are hung underneath so they can beat them as well!
I'm not sure I have a favorite ornament on my tree - I have some old oragamy wax dip star's of my grandmothers, they were too poor to buy ornaments so mainly everything on there tree was handmade. they're pretty cool as during the dipping process they also used glitter.
Well I'm gonna get working for now - Later!!!
